Tiger Woods has accepted a special exemption from the US Golf Association, and he will play in the US Open in June. Woods has won the competition three times, with his final victory coming in 2008.

Nevertheless, his five-year exemption that followed his 2019 Masters victory ended earlier this year, thus he is no longer automatically eligible.

The 48-year-old has only participated in two competitions this year and placed 60th at the Masters last month as he continues to battle the long-term effects of multiple injuries. “The US Open, our national championship, is a truly special event for our game and one that has helped define my career,” said Woods in a statement.

“I’m honored to have been granted this exemption, and I’m really looking forward to competing in the US Open this year, especially at Pinehurst, a place that has great significance for the game.” From June 13–16, the US Open will be held at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina.
