BREAKING: Cincinnati Bengals Sign 2 QBs To New Deal Before 2024 Season; Screw Over Backup

Cincinnati Bengals

A few days prior to the commencement of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals revealed on Thursday that they had finalized two contracts with quarterbacks. In a trade that truly screws them over, they extended a player and signed a previous draft pick.

Last season, Jake Browning was a key player.

Due to Joe Burrow’s wrist injury, backup quarterback Jake Browning played in nine games for the Bengals last season, starting seven of them. With 1,936 throwing yards, 12 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions, he concluded the season with a 171/243 passing yard average. For the majority of the season, Burrow was unable to stay upright due to poor offensive line play, despite his outstanding performance.

Browning made a two-year contract signing with the Cincinnati Bengals.

A second-year University of Washington athlete, Browning joined the Bengals practice squad prior to the 2021 campaign. After serving as a member of Cincinnati’s practice squad in 2021 and 2022, he participated in nine games in 2023, making seven starts. As a starting pitcher, he guided the group to a 4-3 record.

He is entitled to the league minimum owing to the ERFA tag, but the Bengals withheld the specifics of the arrangement. For someone who has demonstrated that he can be a useful backup in the league, this is an unjust and awkward agreement. Before agreeing to the two-year contract, Spotrac reports that Browning was scheduled to make $915,000 for the 2024 season. He would so be expected to earn $1.8 million in Cincinnati for two seasons.

Logan Woodside was signed by the Bengals.

The Bengals not only retained Browning but also added a well-known player to their squad. Logan Woodside, their former 2018 draft pick, was signed by them to a one-year contract:

The University of Toledo’s Woodside (6-1, 213), a fifth-year player, was originally selected by the Bengals in the seventh round of the 2018 draft. The Tennessee Titans (2020–21) and Atlanta Falcons (22–23) are the teams he has played for in 13 career games. He has completed four of seven throws for 34 yards.

For their offseason training program, the Bengals have three quarterbacks on their roster.
