Following Ryan Garcia’s “positive test for a prohibited substance,” Devin Haney speaks out.

After the rumors surfaced, Garcia denied on several occasions that he had taken an illegal substance.

Following news that Ryan Garcia had tested positive for a prohibited drug, Devin Haney released a statement ending his quiet.

On April 20, Garcia overcame Haney by majority decision after submitting his opponent in rounds seven, ten, and eleven.

The fighter, who is from California, lost a wager of $1.5 million with his opponent prior to the battle and was apparently not able to make weight, but he still made over $30 million in total. Garcia’s father Bill confirmed that the fight earnings will be split 55/45 in his favor.

However, according to a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association letter distributed to all parties on Wednesday and covered by ESPN, Garcia tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug ostarine the day before and during his bout with Haney.

Garcia later refuted claims that he had used any illegal substances, saying in a video that was uploaded on Twitter that he had “never taken a steroid… I have no idea where to purchase steroids. I hardly ever take vitamins. Huge fabrications. I gave him a beating.”

Afterwards, he posted on Facebook, asking, “Why in the world would I volunteer for a drug test if I planned on taking drugs? Make it make sense???” Garcia’s promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, responded, saying, “Ryan has put out multiple statements denying knowingly using any banned substances – and we believe him.” Now, Haney, Garcia’s opponent, has broken his silence, telling ESPN, “We learned about this situation not too long ago and it’s unfortunate Ryan cheated and disrespect both the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive on both occasions.”

“I’ve always supported clean combat, and this is one instance of that.

“Despite his recent post, Ryan continues to act as though this is a joke, and he owes the fans an apology. We risk everything to make a living by entertaining people. You’re not a boxer.

This casts the struggle in a whole new perspective. I battled on my shield and managed to get back up in spite of the deficit!

“Sports like this claim lives. This situation is not amusing.”
