Although Rafael Nadal has already received multiple Laureus Awards for Sportsman of the Year, he has now been recognized for his humanitarian efforts.

The Spanish national attended this year’s 2024 Laureus Awards in Madrid and took home a prize, but it wasn’t the one he had previously received. In contrast to his two previous wins of Sportsperson of the Year (in 2011 and 2021), Nadal was recognized this year for his humanitarian efforts.

Through the Rafa Nadal Foundation, the Spaniard uses his advantage to help others, and their efforts have recently gained recognition. Since its establishment in 2010, the organization has been led by his wife, Maria Francisca Perello.

“Breaking down barriers standing in the way of social inclusion” is the stated objective. For its extensive work, the foundation received recognition.

“It is an incredible honor to accept this Award in appreciation of the work that FundaciĆ³n Rafa Nadal does.” It is evidence of our dedicated team’s joint efforts in both Spain and India, who have contributed to genuinely changing the lives of young people.”

The organization assists in one of the most impoverished areas in India and supports other projects throughout Spain. With his Laureus Sport for Good Award, Rafael Nadal made history by being the first player to win both the Sportsman of the Year and Sport for Good titles.

Sean Fitzpatrick, Chairman of Laureus Sport for Good, mocked the award, saying it was “well deserved.”

“You have much earned this award. FundaciĆ³n Rafa Nadal has been devotedly working to transform the lives of young people in India and Spain for more than ten years. Families and communities are being transformed by the way they use physical activity to reflect the values they uphold, such as respect and teamwork.”

These are also the principles that form the basis of Laureus. Rafael Nadal’s legacy will live on thanks to their efforts, which go well beyond his amazing 20-year tennis accomplishments.”
